The rain has stopped and we are finally able to enjoy our time outdoors. Many of us live in small spaces so throwing our doors open to our porches and yards increases our living space and allows us to enjoy the beautiful weather. Many people are putting as much care and focus on their outdoor living spaces as their homes, with upgrades like kitchens, outdoor movie/television viewing, and use of smart technology. Whether your project is large or small, consider timeless, functional pieces that weather beautifully and create a continuous experience inside and out.
If you’re outfitting your pergola for summer entertaining, add a large seating area that seats all your guests. Add a little privacy with sheer curtains. Love dining alfresco but tired of your old furniture? Try updating the chairs for a little style change.
Start Small
You don’t have to launch a huge project – try adding a new rug to ground your outdoor space. A couple of small ottomans can work as a footrest or side table if you add a tray. And don’t forget your front porch. If you don’t have room for a rocker or a swing, try a colorful bistro set for a glass of wine with your neighbor or a three-piece conversation set that matches the style of your home. If you have a firepit, try our favorite Adirondack chairs – they’re durable, comfortable, and come in a lot of great colors.
Add some wow!
Plants and pillows are a great way to accessorize your outdoor spaces without breaking the bank. We like to use old pillows to stuff new ones, so we order pillow covers instead of new pillows. We can remove them and wash them as needed too. Add cozy throws on your outdoor sectionals for movie nights.
If you don’t have a green thumb, there are nice faux plants to finish your outdoor space. If you do, add some pretty pots to provide color and texture to your space.
